The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Somaliland has issued a strong condemnation of recent statements attributed to officials in Mogadishu that were aired on Al Jazeera.

In an official statement released on Sunday 07 Februar 2026, the ministry described the claims as “utterly baseless” and without foundation. It accused the statements of being inaccurate and misleading, asserting that they appear designed to distort public opinion and undermine Somaliland’s diplomatic efforts.

The ministry called on media outlets, including international broadcasters, to exercise professional responsibility by relying solely on verified and credible sources when reporting on sensitive regional matters.

The condemnation follows an exclusive interview with Somalia state minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Mohamed Omar on Al Jazeera, in which he rejected any potential Israeli military presence in Somaliland and criticized Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as interference that threatens Somalia’s sovereignty and regional stability.

Somaliland have consistently denied related allegations involving military bases or other arrangements, maintaining that their engagements remain strictly diplomatic in nature.
