In a high-profile interview on the sidelines of the prestigious gathering, President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro showcased Somaliland’s stability, democratic credentials, and investment appeal with bold clarity. He emphasized that Somaliland isn’t waiting for formal international recognition—it’s actively shaping its destiny and forging partnerships on its own terms.

The discussion spotlighted Somaliland’s strategic economic potential, particularly through the transformative partnership with DP World at the Port of Berbera. When asked about DP World’s early investment in Somaliland, President Irro expressed deep appreciation: “I thank DP World for making that brave initiative and investing in Somaliland in 2016. We also thank the British investment company, which has now taken shares in DP World. This proves that Somaliland is reliable, peaceful, and open for business.”

As the moderator highlighted the port’s impressive growth—around 1,200 employees currently, with 61 companies already operating in the free zone, another 66 in the pipeline, and eight more in active discussions—President Irro described this as a powerful example that inspires other investors and companies to follow suit.

Looking ahead, he outlined ambitious plans to expand infrastructure in collaboration with DP World and Ethiopia. The focus includes upgrading corridors, commercial ports, and other facilities to better serve landlocked nations like Ethiopia, turning Somaliland into a vital regional gateway for trade and services.
