The Ministry of Finance and Economic Development of the Republic of Somaliland has officially rolled out a new wheelchair-accessible entrance at its headquarters, making government services easier for persons with limited mobility.

Director-General Mr. Mohamed Hassan Saleban personally welcomed disability-rights campaigner and athlete Mr. Abdirisak Shabeel inside the building today, marking the first time a wheelchair user has entered the Ministry’s main offices without barriers.

Speaking at the brief ceremony, the DG said:

“In the past I used to meet Abdirisak outside on the steps.
Today, for the first time, he rolled straight into my office.
This ramp means every citizen with limited mobility can now walk—or roll—into any government office and get served quickly and with dignity.”

The new ramp and widened doorway were built in direct response to requests from disability advocates.

Mr. Abdirisak Shabeel praised the Ministry:

“This is a huge step forward.

The leadership listened, acted fast, and delivered.
I thank the Minister, the DG, and the entire team for proving that Somaliland builds for EVERYONE.”

The Ministry has pledged to install similar ramps at all regional finance offices within the next 90 days.
