The event, which concluded earlier this week, spotlighted Africa’s untapped resources and opportunities, drawing dignitaries, diplomats, and global leaders to discuss the continent’s future.
The invitation by the House of Commons marks a significant recognition of Somaliland’s growing diplomatic presence and its efforts to forge international partnerships.
Among the highlights, former Somaliland Representative to the UK, Ambassador Abdi Abdillahi Hersi (commonly known as “Dayaxweerar”), was honored with the prestigious “Outstanding Diplomat of the Year 2025” award. The accolade acknowledges his exemplary contributions to strengthening Somaliland-UK relations and promoting the nation’s interests on the global stage.
Ambassador Hersi was accompanied by the current Deputy Ambassador during the award ceremony, symbolizing a seamless transition and continued commitment to Somaliland’s diplomatic mission.
The event took on an added layer of emotion with eulogies for its late patron, Raila Odinga, the former Kenyan Prime Minister, who passed away just hours before the summit’s opening on October 15, 2025. His legacy as a champion of African unity resonated deeply among attendees, making the awards ceremony a poignant tribute to his vision.
