The Republic of Somaliland proudly launched the Grand Peace Conference in Erigavo on Tuesday, a historic event declared open by Governor Ahmed Abdi Muse of the Sanaag Region.

This landmark gathering, fulfilling President H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro’s November 2024 pledge, underscores Somaliland’s unwavering commitment to peace, unity, and reconciliation in the wake of last year’s challenges.

Hundreds of delegates, including government officials, parliamentarians, traditional elders, and community leaders, converged in Erigavo to foster dialogue and heal divisions following the December 2024 conflict that displaced residents.

The conference builds on the success of the El-Afweyn peace agreement and the integration of clan militias into national forces, showcasing Somaliland’s proactive approach to stability.

Governor Muse hailed the opening as “a moment of hope and renewal,” emphasizing inclusivity and mutual respect as cornerstones of the initiative.

Local residents expressed optimism, with markets buzzing and community spirit reignited.
