In a significant step toward advancing gender equality, Ms. Salma Abdirahman Walaaleye, Head of the Gender Advisory Office at the Somaliland House of Representatives, presented a comprehensive activity report today, outlining the office’s accomplishments and ambitious plans for the future. The event, held at the House’s headquarters, was graced by the Speaker, Mr. Yasin Mahmoud Hiir (Faraton), First Deputy Speaker, Mr. Said Mire Farah (Giire), and other dignitaries.
Ms. Salma highlighted the office’s notable successes, including empowering women in politics, enhancing the capacity of House members and staff on gender equality, and launching community awareness and training programs to promote women’s rights. “Our work is about ensuring women’s voices are heard and their contributions are valued at every level of decision-making,” she stated.
The report also outlined forward-looking goals, such as advocating for laws and policies to promote equality, forging international partnerships for technical and financial support, and increasing public awareness to foster a supportive environment for women’s participation in national governance.
