HARGEISA, Somaliland – The 32nd session of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Somaliland, chaired by H.E. President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro) and attended by H.E. Vice President Mohamed Ali Aw Adbi, was held today at the Presidential Palace.
The cabinet meeting addressed a comprehensive agenda, with key reports and discussions focusing on:
1. National Security Update: The Minister of Interior and Security,Mr. Abdalle Mohamed Carab, presented a detailed report on the overall security situation across the nation.
2. Economic and Financial Affairs: A report on fiscal,financial, and economic matters was delivered by the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr. Abdilahi Hassan Adan.
3. National Drought Response: The Minister of Religion and Endowments,Sheikh Abdullahi-Baashe Daahir Jaamac, represented by Vice President Mohamed Ali Aw Cabdi in his capacity as Chairman of the Drought Relief Committee, briefed the cabinet on the severe drought conditions affecting the country.
4. Local Governance and Urban Development: The Deputy Minister of Local Governments and Urban Development,Mr. Axmed Cumar X. Cabdilaahi, provided an update on his ministry’s activities.
5. Mineral Resources and Key Infrastructure Projects: The Minister of Energy and Minerals,Mr. Axmed Jaamac Barre, reported on the state of mineral resources in the country’s regions and presented progress on major infrastructure projects, specifically the expansion of the water supply systems in the cities of Borama and Berbera.
6. Public Health Situation: The Minister of Health Development,Dr. Xuseen Bashiir Xirsi, updated the cabinet on the general health situation nationwide and addressed the cholera outbreak affecting parts of the Sanaag region.
7. Road Safety and Scrap Metal Hazards: The Minister of Transport and Road Development,Mr. Cismaan Ibraahim Nuur (Afgaab), raised concerns about the dangers posed by scrap metal and abandoned vehicles obstructing roads and impeding traffic.
8. Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Framework Law: The Council of Ministers held an in-depth deliberation on the draft law governing Public-Private Partnerships.The council approved the motion to pass the law, with its final ratification scheduled for the next cabinet session.
Recognition of Ministerial Performance: Concluding the 32nd session,H.E. the President commended three ministries for their outstanding performance over the past six months. The recognized ministries were:
1. The Ministry of Education, Training, and Science
2. The Ministry of Local Governments and Urban Development
3. The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change
