In a significant step toward advancing Somaliland’s economic development, senior officials from the Ministry of Investment and Industry held a productive meeting with a delegation from DP World, led by Mr. Supachai Wattanaveerachai, the company’s East Africa Manager. The meeting, attended by Deputy Minister Hon. Eng. Mohamed Elmi Huno, Director General Mr. Abdifatah Ismail Duale, and the Director of Investment, Industry, and Research, focused on accelerating collaboration to unlock Somaliland’s investment potential.
The discussions centered on identifying and capitalizing on investment opportunities to drive economic growth, with a particular emphasis on projects that enhance Somaliland’s role as a regional trade hub.
Both parties exchanged detailed reports on investment prospects and explored strategies to leverage DP World’s expertise in logistics and port management, particularly at Berbera Port, a cornerstone of Somaliland’s economy.
The meeting builds on DP World’s ongoing $442 million investment in Berbera Port, which has already transformed it into a vital trade gateway for the Horn of Africa, supporting Ethiopia’s growing trade needs and fostering regional connectivity.
Deputy Minister Huno emphasized Somaliland’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment, citing the Berbera Economic Zone (BEZ) as a model for attracting foreign investment. “This partnership with DP World is pivotal for our vision to position Somaliland as a leading logistics and trade hub,” he stated.
Mr. Wattanaveerachai echoed this sentiment, highlighting DP World’s dedication to sustainable development and job creation in Somaliland, as demonstrated by their recent Sustainable Development Impact Disclosure, which includes Somaliland among key emerging markets.
This collaboration is expected to enhance trade flows, create jobs, and strengthen Somaliland’s economic ties with global markets, aligning with the government’s broader vision for sustainable growth.
