Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Ismail Ducale Yusuf, welcomed a high-level delegation from the UK government, led by Chris Pycroft, Head of UK Development Projects, at his office today.
The delegation, representing the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), included key figures such as Nicola Murray, Head of Humanitarian Aid, Tatiana Fernandez, Head of the British Office in Hargeisa, and Abdirisaaq, a senior FCDO official.
The meeting centered on addressing the severe impact of the ongoing drought on Somaliland’s education system and exploring urgent solutions to ensure learning continuity.
Discussions highlighted the need for immediate interventions to mitigate the drought’s effects, including strengthening educational infrastructure, protecting vulnerable students, and enhancing the quality of education.
Minister Yusuf expressed gratitude for the UK’s steadfast support, noting that this partnership is crucial for sustaining Somaliland’s educational progress.
The UK delegation reaffirmed their commitment to deepening support, pledging to prioritize initiatives that safeguard education during the drought crisis.
