In a significant step toward boosting Somaliland’s economic development, the Minister of Energy and Minerals, Eng. Ahmed Jama Barre, alongside the Minister of Investment, Hon. Said Mohamed hosted a high-level delegation from the Saudi Arabia-based Arab-African Economy company at the ministry’s headquarters today. The delegation, led by Dr. Ahmed H. Alattas, Deputy Chairman of Finance and Investment, Dr. Wajdi Saed, Secretary-General, and Hani Hassan, Advisor to the Chairman of the Supreme Council, included six other key members.

The visit signals strong interest from the Arab-African Economy company in investing in Somaliland’s untapped oil and mineral resources. Minister Barre provided a comprehensive overview of the country’s investment opportunities, highlighting Somaliland’s openness to international partnerships and the critical role natural resource development plays in driving national progress. “Somaliland is committed to creating a welcoming environment for global investors,” Barre stated, emphasizing the potential for mutually beneficial collaborations.

The delegation expressed particular enthusiasm for opportunities in Somaliland’s oil and mining sectors, citing the country’s strategic location and resource potential as key attractions.  Somaliland remains a largely under-explored nation with significant prospects for commercial oil and gas discoveries, as well as vast mineral deposits.

This meeting follows Somaliland’s ongoing efforts to attract foreign investment, including recent engagements with companies from Taiwan and the UAE, and aligns with the government’s vision to leverage its natural resources for economic growth. The Arab-African Economy company’s interest marks a pivotal moment for Somaliland as it seeks to position itself as a key player in the regional energy and mining markets.
