The ceremony, attended by Taiwan’s Ambassador Hon. Allen C. Leu, Somaliland’s Foreign Minister Hon Abdirahman Dahir, Mayor of Hargeisa Mr. Abdikarim A. Mooge, Somaliland Taiwan Envoy Hon. Mohamoud Jama Aden Galaal and different officials and guests invited underscores the growing cooperation between the two nations despite Taiwan’s lack of widespread international recognition.

The infrastructure project, funded by the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the local government, aims to enhance connectivity and support economic activity in one of Hargeisa’s busiest areas. The road’s rehabilitation is expected to ease traffic flow and boost the nation’s development, reflecting Taiwan’s commitment to fostering partnerships through development aid.
This event is part of a broader context of Taiwan’s diplomatic strategy in Africa, where it seeks to expand its influence and challenge dubbed China’s “One China” policy.
Republic of Somaliland, which reclaimed its independence from Somalia in 1991 but remains unrecognized by the international community, has established a unique relationship with Taiwan, including the opening of representative offices in each other’s capitals.
