In a landmark diplomatic move, President H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro of the Republic of Somaliland embarked on an official working visit to Qatar on Saturday, marking the first time a Somaliland president visiting the Gulf nation. The trip, prompted by an official invitation from the Qatari government, underscores Somaliland’s growing international engagement.

President Irro, accompanied by a high-level delegation, traveled to Doha aboard a special aircraft. The delegation includes key figures such as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Abdirahman Dahir Adan, the Minister of Internal Affairs and National Security, Hon. Abdale Mohamed Arab, the Minister of the Presidency, Hon. Khadar Hussein Abdi, the Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Hon. Sheikh Abdullahi Dahir Jama, the Presidential Senior Economic Advisor, Dr. Abdirahman Duale Beyle and the Chief of Staff Abdikadir Eidle.

During the several days visit, President Irro and his team are scheduled to hold talks with Qatar’s leadership and senior officials. The expected discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral ties, with a particular emphasis on regional security and stability in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and the Horn of Africa.

Other key topics include economic cooperation, investment opportunities, infrastructure development, and social issues.

This historic visit highlights Somaliland’s proactive foreign policy and its commitment to fostering robust relationships with the international community.
