The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, today officially launched the National Child Immunization Campaign, a major public health initiative aimed at protecting children against preventable diseases such as pneumonia, measles, and polio.
The ceremony took place in the State House district of Hargeisa and brought together senior officials from the Ministry of Health, healthcare professionals, and representatives from key institutions.
The event reaffirmed the Government’s firm commitment to advancing maternal and child health and expanding access to essential health services across the country.
In their opening remarks, the Minister of Health Development and the Director General of the Ministry highlighted the campaign’s importance, emphasizing its role in reducing child mortality and building a healthier future for Somaliland.
Speaking at the event, His Excellency the Vice President described immunization as a cornerstone of public health and a critical investment in the nation’s future:
“Immunization remains one of the most transformative and cost-effective public health interventions of our time. By protecting children from preventable diseases, we are laying the foundation for a healthier, more resilient nation.”
He further emphasized that the immunization program would be expanded and sustained nationwide, with strong oversight from the highest levels of leadership:
“The President and I are resolutely committed to ensuring the success of this campaign. We will continue to work in close coordination with the Ministry of Health to guarantee that these essential vaccines are accessible to every child, in every district, without exception.”
In conclusion, the Vice President reiterated the Government’s enduring dedication to the wellbeing of mothers and children:
“The health and wellbeing of our mothers and children stand at the core of our national development agenda. As a Government, we remain steadfast in our duty to uphold their rights, protect their dignity, and ensure equitable access to quality healthcare for all.”
