The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland, His Excellency, Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, today officiated the grand opening of the Heegan Multi Specialist and Teaching Hospital, a pioneering medical institution established in the heart of Borama.
Spearheaded by a consortium of highly trained Somaliland doctors, the hospital represents a landmark achievement in the advancement of specialized healthcare services within the nation. It is designed not only to deliver world-class medical treatment but also to serve as a hub for medical education and professional development.
Upon arrival, the Vice President was welcomed by hospital leadership and conducted an extensive tour of the facility. He received detailed briefings on the hospital’s various departments, advanced capabilities, and its long-term vision to serve as a model of excellence in healthcare delivery.
In his address to attendees, His Excellency commended the vision, patriotism, and professionalism of the medical practitioners who brought the project to fruition. He urged the staff to carry forward their mission with unwavering integrity, compassion, and dedication to public service.
“This institution stands as a beacon of hope and progress — a testament to what is possible when knowledge, commitment, and a love for one’s country are brought together in service of the people,” said the Vice President.

The inauguration of Heegan Hospital aligns with the Government of Somaliland’s broader national development agenda, which places strategic emphasis on strengthening healthcare infrastructure, fostering local expertise, and expanding access to essential services.
