The Minister of Internal Affairs and Security of Somaliland, Mr. Abdalle Mohamed Arab, has stated that the government is working to eliminate the practice of tribalism and is actively combating it.
The minister also noted that within a year, they aim to put an end to entrenched tribal divisions.
He emphasized that no one will be allowed to appear on television claiming affiliations like “we, the people of such-and-such clan.”
On the other hand, he stated that the new government is calling for unity in Somaliland, highlighting that the only way to achieve success is by abandoning the ugly face of tribalism.
He said, “This government is against tribalism; we reject it, we will fight it, and we will remain the people of Somaliland. I promise you that, God willing, within a year, it will become a shameful act for someone to sit on a screen and say, ‘We, the people of such-and-such clan.’
On the other hand, he stated that the new government is calling for unity in Somaliland, highlighting that the only way to achieve success is by abandoning the ugly face of tribalism.
He said, “This government is against tribalism; we reject it, we will fight it, and we will remain the people of Somaliland. I promise you that, God willing, within a year, it will become a shameful act for someone to sit on a screen and say, ‘We, the people of such-and-such clan.’ We will have to stop this”.
He called upon the youth to completely shun and totally refuse to engage in the archaic practice. He reminded them that they have grown in intercommunal setting that was inclusive.
“Tribalism leads nowhere. In the history we are living today, unity is what has brought us success. We will not accept it, nor will we tolerate it. We will show our society that it is a disgrace, something to be ashamed of and despised”, he said.
“The new government administration is calling upon all Somaliland communities to foster unity, which is the path to success and the way to improve our history. If we lose this, it will not be possible”, he ended.
