The Vice President H.E. Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail (Saili’i) said that the nation of the Republic of Somaliland has a great responsibility to protect the safety, security and development of Somaliland’s coast.
He said this at a meeting he opened to analyze the strengthening of security and development of Somaliland shores, pointing out that that there should be focus on the defense of the high seas.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Investment, Council Relations, Climate Change, the Deputy Minister of Interior and Justice, the Presidential Adviser on Maritime Affairs, the Director of the Somaliland Ports Authority, the Chairman of the Good Governance Committee, the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the deputy police chief, the Attorney General, diplomats from the Taiwan Embassy and senior officials from EUCAP.
He noted that comprehensive guidelines will be issued to govern the regulations of the high seas of the Republic of Somaliland.
He said. “Somaliland has a sea-shore that is more than 850 km long. We have international and national obligations, especially in our sea, strengthening the administration, complete laws and complete international regulations are needed, so far we do not have complete laws, but we are in the process of finalizing our own laws and aligning them with international laws”.
He continued, “We have responsibility to the thresh-holds of our sea-shores, and by extension for the region and international obligations hence all the institutions concerned ought to work concertedly towards its cause”.
