Justice & Custodial Commander criticized Inmates dispute exaggeration

THT-Somaliland Minister of Justice Hon. Saleban Warsame Guled and Commander of the Somaliland Custodial Corps Brigadier General Ahmed Awale Yusuf (Ahmed Libah) spoke about violence between inmates in a room Hargeisa Central jail and guards, and lamented how the incident were overplayed.

The incident which began with a dispute between the inmates, latter some of them took advantage of the situation to create assault to the soldiers and injuring them with objects in the courtyard.

The prison guards and police who came to the scene succeeded to control the situation in a short period of time, with no casualties or serious injuries to the detainees, while some guards injured, while calming the situation.

Prison situations immediately returned to normal, and all detainees were safely transferred to their cells. Although, at the beginning of the incident, the sound of gunfire heard outside the jail caused a sense of panic.

Nevertheless, social media users who were unaware of the incident, have misrepresented and misinformed the public, yet the reality of the situation was a small inmate agitation, arisen in Block A Room with nearly 150 inmates, jailed for various sins live, but responsible departments succeeded to control responsibly and carefully.

Somaliland’s Minister of Justice Hon. Saleban Warsame Guled and Commander of the Somaliland Custodial Corps Brigadier General Ahmed Awale Yusuf (Libah) who spoke to the reporters after the brief incident that had taken place, stated
“Prisoners complained about a prisoner who misbehaved, and during the complaint, some rioters took advantage to create uproar. They threw stones to the soldiers guard. No prisoners were injured, yet soldiers got injuries” said Commander Ahmed.

Commander Ahmed vowed to sue all those spread false information and misinterpreted the brief violence, yet prison soldiers had been wounded ”he added.

Minister of Justice Hon. Saleban Warsame Guled congratulated the army for its dutifully and efficiently handling of the incident, noting that “not a single prisoner escaped or was injured. The situation in the jail is safe,” said Hon. Guled, who criticized the media and the public to exaggerate and disrupt the operation of the army forces.

On the other hand, during the operation, Interior Minister Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, commanders of the Armed Forces and other government officials arrived at the jail.
