THT-The minister of religious affairs Sheikh Abdirizak Albany was the chief guest in a workshop about female genital mutilation (FGM).
The theme of the meeting was “accelerating investment to end female genital mutilation (FGM).”
Addressing the seminar, Sheikh Albany stated the dangers of female genital mutilation (FGM) to the girl child and women folk at large.
He said, “Muslims and Non-Muslims have practised FGM for a long time, but the worst kind of FGM is called the Pharaoh type.”
He stated that the practice of FGM has caused untold suffering to women, as they have to bear unimaginable pain and psychological trauma as a consequence of mutilation of their genitals.
Sheikh Albany stated that FGM is not represented in the Islamic principles and teachings. He branded it a strange phenomenon.
The cleric confirmed that Islamic jurisprudence about FGM is crystal clear. It is optional.
