First Lady meets with visiting UNFPA Representatives

Somaliland First lady Amina Sheik Mohamed Jirde, who at the is Somaliland’s special envoy for Campaign for accelerated reduction of maternal mortality “CARMMA” today met with top visiting UNFPA representatives and Ministry of health officials.
The focus of the meeting was to evaluate the achievements of the “CARMMA” campaign and develop new strategies and plans, but to ensure coordination and effective implementation of existing ones and also assess the role played by the special envoy during the past year.
The visiting UNFPA representatives on their part pledged to continue to support “CARMMA” campaign and at the same time requested the Somaliland’s special envoy for Campaign for accelerated reduction of maternal mortality “CARMMA” to expand the activities of the campaign so as to include mobilizing citizens against FGM and supporting ongoing efforts and initiatives to improve maternal, newborn and child health.
On the other hand, UNFPA human development section will enhancing the country’s capacity to coordinate, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate the information gathered from maternal health centers.
In a bid to reduce maternal, newborn and child mortality during birth, we always refer to scientific data so as identify areas and establish a real plan that reflects the needs of medical institutions of the country.
