Somaliland’s House of Representatives’ Committee on Internal Affairs, Defense and Security held a high-level briefing with Coast Guard Commander Admiral Ahmed Hure Haariye, focusing on the force’s operations, responsibilities and the challenges confronting Somaliland’s maritime security.
The meeting, held at the committee’s office, was chaired by Committee Chairman Abdikarim Mecaad Isak and attended by Deputy Chairman Guled Mohamed Warsame, lawmakers and committee staff.
Admiral Hure briefed the committee on the Coast Guard’s mandate, day-to-day operations and responsibilities in protecting Somaliland’s coastline and national interests at sea.
Lawmakers questioned the commander on the force’s performance, operational responsibilities and the wider national duties entrusted to the Coast Guard, seeking a clearer picture of its capabilities and the obstacles affecting its work.
The session forms part of the House of Representatives’ constitutional oversight and accountability role, through which parliamentary committees monitor the performance of national institutions and examine the challenges they face in fulfilling their mandates.
The briefing underscores growing parliamentary attention to Somaliland’s maritime security and the operational capacity of the Coast Guard as the country seeks to strengthen the protection and management of its extensive coastline.
