Somaliland’s Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Ismail Duale Yusuf, has joined a ceremony honoring 212 Somaliland students who have graduated from universities across Ethiopia, marking another milestone in the country’s efforts to expand higher education opportunities for its young people.
The ceremony, organized by the Somaliland Higher Education Commission, brought together graduates who successfully completed Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs under scholarships provided by the Government of Ethiopia and administered through the Somaliland Higher Education Commission.
The graduates pursued a wide range of academic disciplines considered important to Somaliland’s development, particularly in areas linked to professional expertise, public services and the advancement of knowledge.
According to the Ministry of Education, several of the fields studied by the graduates are not currently offered as formal degree programs at universities in Somaliland, making the Ethiopian scholarships an important pathway for students seeking specialized academic training.
The graduation ceremony highlighted the growing role of international academic partnerships in expanding access to specialized education and building a pool of highly trained Somaliland professionals capable of contributing to the country’s future development.
The 212 graduates are now expected to take their newly acquired knowledge and skills into Somaliland’s workforce and wider society, adding to the country’s growing community of university-educated professionals.
