Somaliland has taken a new step toward strengthening road connectivity in the Awdal region, with the Director of the Somaliland Roads Development Agency (RDA), Mohamed Farah Abdi, officially launching a study for a new road linking Baki District and Gab.
The study was launched in Borama during a ceremony attended by the Mayor of Baki, traditional leaders representing communities along the proposed road corridor, representatives of UNOPS, which is carrying out the project, and engineers from the Somaliland Roads Development Agency.
The assessment will examine the proposed route and provide the technical groundwork needed for the development of the road, which is expected to improve connections between communities and support the movement of people, goods and services across the area.
The project forms part of broader Somaliland efforts to expand and modernize its road network while strengthening economic and social connectivity in Awdal Region.
Local traditional leaders and officials participating in the launch welcomed the initiative, which could play an important role in improving access to communities along the route and supporting regional infrastructure development.
The launch marks the beginning of the study phase, laying the foundation for potential future construction of the Baki–Gab road.
