The Somaliland National Army Command has officially taken over Asli Maydi Hospital, a privately owned medical facility belonging to businessman Barkhad Jibriil in Erigavo, the capital of Sanaag region.
The takeover was overseen by Colonel Fanax Abdi Abdulle, Commander of the Eastern Zone of the Somaliland National Army, who said the hospital will now be placed under government management and will serve both members of the National Army and the civilian population.
Colonel Fanax said the hospital, which had remained closed for some time, is urgently needed by residents of the region and will be reopened to provide essential healthcare services.
He added that the government plans to deploy doctors, nurses and other medical personnel to the facility to ensure it can resume operations and meet the healthcare needs of both military personnel and local communities.
The Army’s takeover of the facility marks a significant step toward expanding access to healthcare services in Erigavo and the wider Sanaag region, particularly for communities that have faced limited access to medical facilities.
