The Ministry of Livestock and Rural Development of Somaliland Hon. Omar Shucayb Mohamed held a high-level meeting with officials from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and Save the Children International to strengthen cooperation on key development priorities aimed at improving the livelihoods of rural communities across the country.
The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration under the BREFONS Project, with particular emphasis on building the resilience of pastoral and rural populations, improving food security and nutrition, increasing livestock and agricultural productivity, and promoting sustainable management of natural resources.
Officials highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts to address the challenges posed by climate change, recurrent droughts, and environmental degradation, which continue to affect rural communities and the livestock sector—one of Somaliland’s most important economic pillars.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment of Somaliland, the African Development Bank, and Save the Children International to supporting long-term development initiatives that strengthen livelihoods, enhance agricultural and livestock production, and improve the well-being of vulnerable communities.
The BREFONS project is expected to play a significant role in advancing rural development and fostering greater resilience among communities dependent on livestock and agriculture, while contributing to sustainable economic growth and food security across Somaliland.
