Somaliland Foreign Minister Receives German Delegation

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somaliland, Hon. Abdirahman Dahir Aden, accompanied by the Director General, Mohamed Abdirahman Hassan, today received Germany’s Deputy Ambassador, Ms. Katrin Josten, and the Head of Development Cooperation, Mr. Simon Hagemann, at the Ministry’s headquarters during their working visit to the Republic of Somaliland.

The German delegation briefed the Minister on Germany’s long-standing support for Somaliland’s water sector, particularly its contribution to expanding water access in Hargeisa. They highlighted the extensive assistance provided to the Hargeisa Water Agency and the progress achieved in improving the capital’s water supply over the years.

The delegation also discussed the recently launched second phase of the Hargeisa Water Expansion Project, funded by the German Government through the German Development Bank. They noted that the project is expected to play a major role in addressing Hargeisa’s water shortages once completed and outlined its implementation plans and budget. In addition, they reviewed other development initiatives supported by Germany across Somaliland.

For his part, Minister Abdirahman Dahir Aden commended the German Government for its continued support to Somaliland, particularly its long-term investment in the expansion of Hargeisa’s water infrastructure. He emphasized that Germany’s assistance has significantly contributed to alleviating water shortages affecting residents of the capital, while acknowledging that further efforts are still needed to achieve a comprehensive and lasting solution.
