In a bold push to elevate Somaliland’s political landscape, the WADDANI Party has launched a landmark initiative to define a clear political ideology. The goal is to shift the nation’s democracy from clan-based loyalties toward idea-driven competition and substantive governance.
The Republic of Somaliland has already turned many once-distant dreams into reality: securing peace, reconciling society, restoring statehood, building democratic institutions, holding one-person-one-vote elections, and advancing toward broader international recognition. Now, the party is setting its sights on the next frontier — establishing a distinctive political ideology that will serve as the hallmark by which citizens choose their leaders.
“Today these achievements stand firm, and tomorrow the party will fully embrace a new direction rooted in our socio-economic realities, our cherished values, and our noble Islamic faith,” the party leader declared in a statement following an academic discussion forum held with diverse segments of Somaliland society.
WADDANI positions itself as the architect of Peace and Prosperity. The party pledges to entrust citizens with responsibility over their lives, businesses, families, and values, while guaranteeing social justice.
The Party Chairman emphasized that for too long, Somaliland’s political parties have faced criticism for lacking meaningful differences. “As WADDANI, we are carving a new path where competition will be based on ideas and vision — where people vote for substance, not just identity,” he stated.
“Every day is a step forward. Today it is only a beginning, but tomorrow it will be fully realized.”
Quoting Nelson Mandela, the message captured the spirit of the moment: “It is always impossible until it is done.”
This move signals WADDANI’s ambition to mature Somaliland’s multiparty system into one defined by ideological clarity — blending Somalilander nationalism, Islamic democratic principles, social democratic policies, and respect for cultural and religious heritage.
