Republic of Somaliland’s Minister of Information, Barkhad Jama Batuun, has delivered a strong message of confidence and unity, declaring that the recognition Somaliland received from Israel is irreversible and that many more countries will soon follow suit.
Speaking to the media, Minister Batuun stated that the weak government in Mogadishu led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has no power to alter Somaliland’s solid history or its growing international legitimacy.
“The recognition of Somaliland is a victorious cause,” he said, adding that Somaliland has now joined the community of recognized nations in the world.
The minister described the diplomatic breakthrough with Israel as “A train that has started moving,” emphasizing that complaints from Mogadishu will change nothing.
“The Hassan Sheikh group is unaware that in the near future they will witness hundreds of countries bearing witness to the existence of the Republic of Somaliland,” he declared.
Minister Batuun also warmly welcomed the new Israeli ambassador appointed to Somaliland, describing the move as a clear sign of deepening diplomatic ties between the two nations.
He urged Somalilanders both at home and in the diaspora to unite in celebrating and promoting the successes achieved, while avoiding anything that could divide the nation.
“The people of the Republic of Somaliland must unite to defend the victories we have achieved and stay away from divisive issues,” the minister stressed.
He further called on the public to prepare for a grand celebration of Somaliland’s Independence Day on May 18, crediting the achievement to the leadership and vision of Somaliland’s President.
This bold statement comes as Somaliland continues to push forward on the international stage following its historic recognition by Israel.
