The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Somaliland today convened a high-level coordination meeting in Hargeisa aimed at enhancing inter-agency collaboration and aligning government institutions behind a unified foreign policy framework.
The meeting, held under the theme of advancing a “Whole Government Approach,” was officially opened by the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Abdurahman Hassan. In his opening remarks, Director General Hassan underscored the ministry’s central role in guiding Somaliland’s foreign policy and emphasized the critical need for coordinated action across all government institutions to safeguard and promote national interests more effectively.
“The effective implementation of a unified approach among government agencies ensures that our national priorities are protected cohesively and with maximum impact,” he stated.
Participants from various government ministries and agencies presented their respective contributions to Somaliland’s international engagement. Key areas of discussion included:
Trade and investment promotion
Migration and border security
Environmental protection and climate change initiatives
Education and academic partnerships
Engagement with the diaspora community
Youth development and empowerment
Directors General from the Ministries of Investment, Defense, and Sports also addressed the gathering, reaffirming their commitment to actively participate in the implementation of the meeting’s outcomes and to strengthen both domestic coordination and international cooperation.
The discussions highlighted the growing importance of effective internal collaboration as a foundation for successful international partnerships. Attendees called for sustained efforts to build a more cohesive foreign policy apparatus.
In closing, the meeting reaffirmed the need for ongoing institutional coordination and the enhancement of Somaliland’s international relations. Organizers announced that a follow-up review meeting will be held in three months to assess progress on the agreed action points and ensure accountability.
