The President H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro held a crucial meeting on Monday with the European Union Ambassador accredited to Somaliland and Somalia Ms. Francesca Di Mauro, who led a large delegation on an official visit.

The President briefed the EU delegation on the government’s top priority—peace and stability—and detailed the concrete steps taken to strengthen security and social cohesion. These include the formal integration of over 6,000 civilian armed personnel and their armories into regulated structures, an achievement that has been accomplished without external assistance.

He also highlighted the resolution of the El-Afweyn conflict through dialogue and reconciliation, as well as the peace platform established in Erigavo aimed at fostering long-term unity and stability.

The Head of State reiterated Somaliland’s commitment to maintaining peace and urged the EU to expand its support in areas of stability and security.

He outlined Somaliland’s firm position on its sovereignty—land, air, and sea—and emphasized the importance of EU recognition of the country’s democratic achievements and over three decades of stability.

The President noted that Somaliland seeks enhanced bilateral engagement with the EU, including dedicated development funding and tailored cooperation programs.

Ambassador Di Mauro congratulated the President on the significant progress achieved in a short period and reaffirmed the EU’s appreciation for Somaliland’s stability, democratic governance, and peaceful environment. She stated the EU’s readiness to strengthen cooperation in security and social development.

The meeting ended with both parties agreeing to accelerate cooperation to advance peace, development, and security in the Horn of Africa.
