In a proactive step toward enhancing food security and disaster preparedness, the Ministry of Agricultural Development, in collaboration with the IMC Center, has rolled out specialized training for regional staff tasked with gathering critical weather and rainfall data.

The sessions, conducted across the Awdal and Togdheer regions, equipped participants with essential professional skills, hands-on instruction on forecasting tools, and best practices for accurate data collection. Over the course of the program, trainees delved into advanced techniques to improve the precision and timeliness of meteorological reporting in remote areas.

This initiative is a cornerstone of our vision for sustainable agriculture,” said the ministry’s statement. “By upskilling our teams, we are not only driving agricultural growth but also fortifying our communities against the impacts of climate variability, from droughts to flash floods.”

The training’s core aim is to elevate workforce capabilities, positioning these experts to contribute meaningfully to key sectors: advancing crop yields through informed planning, optimizing water resource management, and preempting natural calamities that have long challenged Somaliland’s pastoral and farming communities.

With climate change amplifying risks in the Horn of Africa, such capacity-building efforts underscore Somaliland’s commitment to resilient development. Officials anticipate that similar programs will expand to other regions, potentially integrating digital monitoring systems for even broader impact
