HARGEISA, Somaliland – The Somaliland Police Force has vowed to uphold public order ahead of a planned cultural gathering by the Subeer Awal clan, its commander stated on Tuesday.

Brigadier General Abdirahman Abdillahi Hassan, Commander of the Somaliland Police Force (JSL), emphasized that any actions threatening national security would be met with firm measures. “Against anyone who disturbs the country’s security, the Police Force will take action and enforce the law,” he stated.

The remarks, made during a press conference disseminated via the police force’s official communications channels, follow an announcement by members of the Subeer Awal clan’s traditional council, known as the Sandaladda Dhaqanka. The council plans to hold a cultural event at the Xaafadda Xawaadle Field in Hargeisa.

Organizers have described the gathering as a non-political cultural event. However, the announcement comes against a backdrop of localized tensions, including recent killings of individuals from the clan and other incidents that have tested social cohesion.

While authorities maintain that the overall security situation in Somaliland remains stable, the police statement is seen as a preemptive measure to ensure the event proceeds peacefully and without incident.
