BORAMA, Somaliland –The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro), conducted a significant inspection tour of the ongoing construction at Borama Airport today, underscoring his administration’s commitment to national infrastructure development.
The visit, which took place on the third day of the President’s working tour of the Awdal region, focused on assessing the progress of the strategic aviation project. The President was received and briefed by the Minister of Aviation and Airport Development, H.E. Fu’ad Ahmed Nuux.
Minister Fu’ad provided a detailed site report, confirming the active construction of critical infrastructure, including the runway, taxiway, and aircraft apron. He further outlined the project’s next phases, which will see the construction of a modern passenger terminal and an Air Navigation Control Tower.
In a statement highlighting the project’s broader vision, the Minister announced that the airport is being designed to serve as Somaliland’s primary hub for Emergency Response aircraft. “Beyond its commercial role, Boorama Airport will be equipped to facilitate rapid emergency and humanitarian aid missions across all regions of Somaliland,” Minister Fu’ad stated.
President Cirro praised the dedication of the Ministry of Aviation and the construction teams on the ground. He emphasized the transformative potential of the airport for the nation’s economy and connectivity.
“This is more than just a runway; it is a catalyst for growth,” said President Cirro. “The Boorama Airport will be pivotal in enhancing social cohesion, stimulating trade and investment, and unlocking the tourism potential of the Awdal region and the entire nation.”
Addressing the local community directly, the President assured them that the project is a national priority. “This airport is an asset for all of Somaliland. My government is fully committed to expediting its completion to deliver this long-awaited service to the people of Awdal without delay,” he concluded.
The development of Boorama Airport is widely seen as a key component of Somaliland’s broader strategy to improve domestic connectivity and strengthen its economic infrastructures.
