The House of Representatives of Somaliland has expressed heartfelt gratitude to U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for his recent call to recognize Somaliland’s sovereignty.
In a letter to Senator Cruz, Acting Speaker Rt. Hon. Saed Mire Farah (Giire) praised the senator’s letter to President Donald J. Trump, urging the U.S. to formally acknowledge Somaliland as an independent state.
Hon. Farah highlighted Somaliland’s 30-year record of democratic governance, peaceful elections, and stability, despite lacking international recognition.
He emphasized Somaliland’s role as a reliable partner in counterterrorism and its strategic importance in the Horn of Africa.
The letter also invited Senator Cruz to visit Hargeisa to observe Somaliland’s progress and discuss stronger U.S.-Somaliland ties.
Having reclaimed its independence from Somalia in 1991, Somaliland continues to seek global recognition while maintaining its own government and security forces. Hon. Farah’s letter underscored Somaliland’s commitment to democracy and regional stability, expressing hope for a lasting partnership with the United States.
