Hargeisa ā President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro) of the Republic of Somaliland received Swiss Ambassador Mirko Giulietti at the Presidential Palace today. Ambassador Giulietti, accredited to both Somaliland and Somalia and based in Nairobi, is on an official visit to Somaliland.
Discussions focused on advancing peace and stability in the region.
President Cirro thanked the Ambassador for the visit and detailed his administration’s recent progress. Key achievements highlighted include:
* Strengthening Peace & Social Cohesion: Particularly in Somaliland’s eastern regions.
* Modernizing Security: Professionalizing the National Armed Forces and securing their vehicle fleet, accomplished independently without external support.
The President reaffirmed Somaliland’s commitment to:
* Enhancing security and stability in the Horn of Africa.
* Upholding good governance and democratic principles.
* Conducting free and fair elections.
Ambassador Giulietti commended Somaliland’s peace, stability, and functioning democratic system, especially notable given its location in a conflict-prone region. He expressed Switzerland’s readiness to support Somaliland’s peace-building initiatives and stated he would recommend specific support measures to his government. The Ambassador also welcomed dialogue to resolve outstanding differences.
