In a warm display of hospitality, Taiwan’s Ambassador to Somaliland, Hon. Allen C. Leu welcomed a group of Taiwanese tourists to his office in Hargeisa, marking a significant moment in the growing relationship between Taiwan and Somaliland.
The visitors, eager to explore Somaliland’s rich culture and history, were greeted with enthusiasm as part of efforts to foster “people-to-people” exchanges between the two nations.
“We are overjoyed to receive Taiwanese tourists visiting the Republic of Somaliland and to share with them the local culture and how far we have come,” Ambassador Allen C. stated. “We look forward to catalyzing more such exchanges and wish everyone a joyful and safe journey.”
The arrival of the tourists comes amid strengthened ties between Somaliland and Taiwan, particularly since the appointment of Somaliland’s new ambassador to Taiwan, Hon. Mohamud Adan Jama Galaal, in early 2025.
Since his appointment, bilateral cooperation has gained momentum, with increased visits by businesspeople and investors, alongside collaborations in education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure. Notably, Taiwan has supported Somaliland with educational scholarships, medical equipment, and infrastructure projects like the Hargeisa Airport Road.
This visit underscores the deepening partnership between the two nations, which established representative offices in each other’s capitals.
The Taiwanese tourists’ visit is expected to boost Somaliland’s emerging tourism sector, showcasing its unique cultural heritage, landscapes, and progress as a stable democracy in the Horn of Africa. Local officials expressed hope that such exchanges will encourage more visitors and deepen mutual understanding between the peoples of Somaliland and Taiwan.
