President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro) of the Republic of Somaliland has publicly commended U.S. Congressman Scott Perry for introducing the “Somaliland Independence Act” to the United States Congress. The bill, submitted on June 14, 2025, aims to recognize Somaliland as a sovereign state, potentially marking a historic step toward international recognition.
In a statement, President Irro expressed gratitude to Congressman Perry for his leadership in presenting the bill, which Somaliland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs hailed as a validation of the nation’s “three-decade record of peace, democratic governance, and regional stability.”
“I extend my heartfelt thanks to Congressman Scott Perry for introducing the Somaliland Recognition Bill to Congress,” President Irro said. “I urge other nations, particularly our close allies, to follow this example and grant Somaliland the international recognition it rightfully deserves.”
