The Organizing Committee for the 18th May Commemoration met with the Somaliland Media Association, agreeing to elevate the 18th May celebration and deliver positive news and reports to the public about the event.
At the meeting, representatives from both the organizing committee and the media spoke, stressing the importance of working together to enhance the commemoration of the Somaliland Republic’s independence restoration on 18th May.
Ahmed Abdirahman Heelo, speaking for the media association, pledged, “As journalists, we commit to sharing the patriotic message of the 18th May commemoration globally and reaching far.”
Shafici Mohamed Artan, Chairman of the Somaliland Journalists Association (SOLJA), stated, “Somaliland journalists have never been criticized for failing to advocate for the Somaliland cause.”
Abdisalan Mohamoud Du’ale (Ilkacase), Director General of the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Awareness, advised the media, “Ensure your reports align with culture and religion, and avoid publishing content that could negatively affect the country.”
Saed Mohamed Burale, Minister of Investment, said, “The media and creative community are invited to promote the 18th May commemoration widely and educate the Somaliland public on preserving peace and security.”
Kadar Mohamed Abdi, Minister of the Somaliland Presidency, noted, “While politics may spark differing views, the 18th May, a day of national unity, should not be undermined.”
Ahmed-Yasin Sh. Ali Ayanle, Minister of Information, affirmed, “The 18th May commemoration is a right and honor for the Somaliland people.”
Concluding the meeting, Abdale Mohamed Arab, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Minister of Internal Affairs, assured the media, “The government pledges to respect the press, and we ask you to adhere to journalistic laws and ethics.”
