The President of the Republic of Somaliland, His Excellency Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro on Wednesday detonated potentially serious political fallout amongst the Hargeisa City Councilors when he took it upon himself to intervene and call them to a roundtable meeting to thrush out the differences amongst themselves.
The crucial meeting held at the Presidency called for the way forward for concerted efforts in the daily business of serving the members of the public, precisely the Hargeisa residents they are subjected to.
The meeting also discussed ways and means of accelerating the council’s extensive work and to improve on the important services that they render.
The President commended the city councilors for the effective work they have done during the past four years.
“We congratulate you on the good work you are doing. The resilience and progress of Hargeisa is a clear example of the determination of the country and the people of the Republic of Somaliland.”
He reminded them that the standard motto of the government he is leading is “Unity and Action”, which clearly defines the priority the administration gives to the unity and trust of the people of Somaliland wherever they live.
The President urged them to expedite and maintain their regular sessions while working in cooperation.
He imparted upon them the importance of the essence of the diversity of opinions (both of pro-government and that of opposition) in political debates which underscores the maturity of the country’s democracy.
The Head of State underpinned the need of solidarity in harnessing stability for the progress and development of the city to put it at par with other cities in the region of the Horn of Africa, especially in the nation’s quest for international recognition.
