Press Release
Mr. Abdikarim Abdi Adan, veteran Somaliland Sovereignty Campaigner, extends his full congratulations and unwavering support to the Government of the Republic of Somaliland for its bold and principled decision to officially suspend all diplomatic talks with Somalia as of April 16, 2025. This decisive move follows the provocative and illegitimate visit by Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre to the city of Las Anod, a territory under the sovereignty of Somaliland.
The visit—denounced as a “calculated provocation” and a clear violation of Somaliland’s territorial integrity—signals the Somali government’s abandonment of any genuine commitment to peaceful dialogue.
The Somaliland government has once again risen to the occasion, standing firmly in defense of its sovereignty, people, and national pride.
Las Anod, a long-contested city in the East Sool’s region, has been at the center of tensions following the violent occupation by SSC-Khaatumo forces in 2023. Somalia’s reckless recognition of SSC-Khaatumo as a federal member state in October 2023 only deepened the divide, affirming Mogadishu’s hostile agenda toward Somaliland’s independence.
During his visit, Prime Minister Barre openly engaged with East Sool’s leadership and was received with orchestrated fanfare—a theatrical attempt to falsely legitimize Somalia’s control over the region and erase Somaliland’s rightful claims.
The release of 25 prisoners by East Sool’s to the Somali federal government during this trip was a further insult, lacking any coordination or negotiation with Somaliland, and rightfully condemned as a political gimmick.
In response, the Council of Ministers of Somaliland acted with unity and resolve by declaring an end to all negotiations with Somalia and prioritizing the defense of its national sovereignty.
The government has since engaged foreign diplomats to ensure international awareness of this breach of protocol and the risks posed to regional peace and stability.
This development underscores the deep failure of Somalia to respect the sovereignty of its neighbors and reinforces the urgency of international recognition for Somaliland.
Mr. Abdikarim Abdi Adan commends the leadership of Somaliland for their patriotic stance and calls on all Somalilanders and friends of Somaliland across the globe to rally in support of this historic and necessary decision.
End.
Mr. Abdikarim Abdi Adan,
veteran Somaliland Sovereignty Campaigner
