The Somaliland government has stopped importing buses with left-sided doors.
A decree issued by the Minister of Transport and Road Development H.E. Osman Nour Af-gaab, issued the order prohibiting the import of buses with left-sided passenger doors on Wednesday.
In the Republic of Somaliland, most public transport vehicles have left-sided doors and almost all vehicles right-handed steer-driven on right sided lanes, issues that have catalyzed lots of accidents causing deaths, injuries, maiming and property damage.
The decision by the Somaliland government to stop the import of left-sided passenger doors and mini-buses with passenger doors on both sides would reduce the ongoing losses that have been causing untold injuries and deaths.
A decree issued by the minister that reached our desk, stated as follows: –
“I have decided that buses with left-sided passenger doors and mini-buses with doors on both sides, cannot be imported into the country nor would customs tax be allowed for them as per the directives notice of this letter.
“Therefore, anyone who infringes the instructions contained herein would be held responsible and subjected to legal action in accordance with the case”. END.
