President Abdirahman Irro lives up to his pledge and increases salaries of all diverse security personnel

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro has on Tuesday made real and lived up to his pledge and promise to increase the remunerations of the various arms of security servicemen and women in the country.

The news of the salary increment was highly received by and hailed the members of the public and the concerned diverse security personnel.

In the culmination of an eventful week in which the Head of State toured and inspected the various arms of the security institutions starting with the armed forces, then the police, the correctional forces, coastguards, the immigration and fire fighting departments, he has directed the increments of the salaries of the general security personnel by 50%, with subsequently similar increment annually throughout the tenure of the administration.

The President also ordered the registration and identification of all the personnel through biometrics iris recognition and census made within 30 days before the implementation of the directives.

The instructions to the effect were contained in the Presidential Decree on Tuesday 22nd January 2025 with Reference No. JSL/XM/XERM/249-044 /012025.

The decree reads as follows in its entirety:-

Presidential Decree No. 02/012025.

Increasing the salaries of the various armed forces in the Republic of Somaliland.

Reference: Article 90, paragraph 4 of the Constitution of the Republic of Somaliland;

After seeing: Article 123 and Article 124 of the Constitution of the Republic of Somaliland;

After noting: The importance of the various National Forces, the National independent sovereignty, defense, protection and ensuring internal security, saving and safeguarding the lives and property of the members of the public, respecting fundamental freedoms and executing adherence of the Constitution and the Laws of the Republic of Somaliland;

Having considered: The importance of the National Forces receiving a regular and amply adequate salary;

Having decided: To fulfill my promise to increase the regular salary of the various National Forces of the Republic of Somaliland;

I hereby direct:

  1. To increase the regular salary of the various National Forces of the Republic of Somaliland, starting this year 2025.
  2. That in each fiscal year, the regular salary of the various National Forces be increased by a full amount (50%) for the first term of the administration, based on the regular salary in the fiscal year 2024.
  3. To carry out the IRIS Biometric Registration for all the various National Forces within a period of thirty (30) days starting from 01-02-2025.
  4. That the salary increase of the various National Forces begin upon completion of the registration and census of the various National Forces of the Republic of Somaliland. END.
