The Speaker of the Somaliland House of Representatives, Hon. Suleiman Mohamud Adan, has promised to work closely with the President and the government of the day.

He also said that the constitution has given the Senate the role of the presidential supreme advisor on national security matters that the institution takes seriously.

He also stated that the Senate tenures have been too long and successive administrations have not bothered to democratize it and as such “the Senate has not left it on its own”.

The senate speaker made the observations as he addressed a luncheon over the week the President made in the senate’s honour.

He said, “As the Senate, we promise to work with you, the constitution states that we are the supreme advisor to the president, in terms of security, there is no compromise since our interests and the interests of the nation are not compromised.”

He stated that the Senate has been sitting in the Senate for a long time, and successive governments have not dared to change it, and the Senate has not left it on its own.

He said, “The Senate has been in place for 33 years, and you have changed us (through democracy) and whatever you do, may God make the task easier for all of us”.

He noted that they would do their best under the President’s guidance to foster harmony and tranquility throughout the nation.
