Inmates in correctional facilities will have special curricula, he adds

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, His Excellency Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilaahi Irro has said that special curricula would be formulated for inmates in correctional facilities.  The Head of State revealed the fact as he inspected the headquarters of the Correctional Forces over the week.

He was welcomed and the Commander of the Correctional Service, Brigadier General Ahmed Awale Yusuf (Libaah), received a salute from units of the Correctional Service, as he inspected and observed the various parts of the command.

Brigadier General Ahmed Awale Yusuf welcomed the president and gave a brief report on the activities of the national security forces for the community and how they care for the prisoners under their control.

The Head of State who delivered a speech on various aspects, praised the Correctional Forces, and explained their importance to the nation.

He stated, “The Correctional Forces are an institution of particular importance in protecting the safety and security of the public, and their performance is central to strengthening law and order. I commend you for fulfilling that duty, and your work and duty to the nation are not only about guarding prisoners, but the Constitution has assigned you the task of moral correction and rehabilitation of inmates.”

The President explained how the government he leads gives importance to the Correctional Service, and stated that the salary increase and welfare that will be provided to the forces will be part of it, “to enable you to do this task, we will build the knowledge, experience and equipment of the Correctional Service, in the same way, you will be like other forces in the country in terms of salary increase and health care and education”.

President Abdirahman Cirro announced that the education of prisoners will be strengthened, and a special curriculum for prisoners will be launched.

He said, “We will also strengthen the education that prisoners receive inside prisons, and soon we will start developing a special curriculum for prisoners, and this is an initiative that we want to improve the future of prisoners.”

The President said that special prisons will be built for women and children of prisoners, which are direly needed, to reduce the suffering of women and children in prisons.

The inspection tour conducted by the President was in company of ministers of defense, interior, justice, the Presidential Advisor on National Security and the governor of Maroodi-jeeh region.
