The United States of America sent a congratulatory message to the elected President of Somaliland Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro, immediately after his win was declared by the NEC.

The US Embassy (in Somalia) sent congratulations and compliments to the President-elect of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro and the people of Somaliland after the presidential election that took place in Somaliland on November 13.

In a statement published on its X broadcast, the embassy praised the electoral process in Somaliland and described it as an example for the region, praising Somaliland’s commitment to the principles of democracy and its implementation.

“The US government congratulates the people of Somaliland and the elected president, Abdirahman Irro. Somaliland’s elections are an example for the region,” the statement said.

The congratulatory message came after the Somaliland election committee announced yesterday the preliminary results, which gave challenger Dr. Abdirahman Irro a landslide win.

He received 63.92% of the votes cast, defeating the ruling Kulmiye Party President Muse Bihi Abdi who received 34.81%.

The UCID party, which received only 0.74%, lost its status as a party, and was replaced by the Kaah organization according to Somaliland’s election laws.
