SOLJA conducts proficiency course for 40

The Somaliland Journalists Association, SOLJA, in collaboration with the National Electoral Commission and the Nimad, launched a crush proficiency training programme whose session is intended to equip 40 journalists, drawn from both the public and private media, with cautionary skills of reporting on elections and associated political matters.

The purpose of the training is basically concerned with media conduct in handling political sensitive issues that pertains to elections campaigns hence is geared towards maintaining sobriety and sanity and not report on anything politicians bicker about that could potentially be explosive.

The training was opened by the Director General of the Ministry of Information, Culture and National Guidance Mr. Mustafa Abdi Issa.

He advised the participants to absorb the lessons and put them into good and applicable use as the nation goes for elections.

SOLJA chairman Shafi Mohamed Ibrahim and journalist Sahra Eidle Noor echoed his words and urged the journalists to report on the elections in a fair and balanced way and to totally avoid anything that could cause social conflict.

Solja chair divulged that they intended to train up to 120 scribes while saying that the 40 already undergoing the course was the first batch.
