Somaliland, UN discuss bilateral relations, security and decentralization projects

The Minister of Interior of the Republic of Somaliland Mohamed Kahin Ahmed received in his office the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations attached to UNSOM, George Conway.

Their discussions mainly entailed the cooperation between the Republic of Somaliland and the United Nations, security and development projects, such as the JPLG decentralization programmes.

The minister gave the representative information about the security situation of the Republic of Somaliland, the projects and activities of the two sides that are essential to the nation.

The Minister expressed the concern of the Government of the Republic of Somaliland regarding the illegal weapons flowing into Somalia, which has in the last few days seen vast caches of illegal weapons make way to the hands of tribal militias and militants in Somalia which threatens the stability and security of the Horn of Africa region as a whole.

On the other hand, the Minister shared with the United Nations officials the importance of the Government of the Republic of Somaliland and the Government of Ethiopia on the agreement signed by the President of the Republic of Somaliland Mr. Muse Bihi Abdi and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia earlier in the year.

The meeting ended with mutual understanding. The Minister was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Security of the Ministry of Interior Abdillahi Hussein Mohamed and the Director General of Security Mubarik Ahmed Ali.
