The government of Somaliland has cautioned Turkey against its warships flouting the territorial waters and the coasts of the Republic of Somaliland.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somaliland Dr. Isse Keyd Mohamud, said that Turkish warships have no rights whatsoever to come to the coast of Somaliland.

He disclosed that the government had already contacted the Turkish government and informed of the same, in the wake of the Turkish-Somali pact.

Dr Isse Keyd noted that the Turkish government is aware that Somaliland’s coast guards are in control of the security of its coasts while it has nothing to do with the cooperation agreement between Somalia and the Turks.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somaliland gave the sentiments in an interview with the Somali section of the BBC when queried on how the government views the recent defense agreement between Turkey and Somalia.
