The Foreign Ministry stated on Tuesday that the Somaliland National Electoral Commission Chairman Musa Hassan Yousuf will lead a delegation to Taiwan on January 3 for a six-day visit. The ministry says the purpose of the visit is to promote mutual understanding of democratic processes and electoral systems and views it as an opportunity to reinforce bilateral ties.
During the visit, Yousuf is expected to meet with Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮 ) and visit the Central Election Commission, as well as various ministries to understand Taiwan’s election process and relevant regulations, and the cooperation of administrative departments in election operations. The delegation will also visit relevant citizen groups to learn about citizen participation in Taiwan’s democratic system.
The Foreign Ministry says Taiwan and Somaliland are both partners who uphold democratic values. It says Yousuf’s visit, timed before Taiwan’s presidential, vice-presidential, and legislative elections is anticipated to facilitate mutual understanding of democratic operations and electoral systems and deepen the relationship between Taiwan and Somaliland.
