Hargeisa: Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland H.E. Abdirahman Abdilahi Ismail (Saili’i) has said that the country will progress when its people are educated and have talented proficiency skills.
The Vice President made this statement at the labour forum, the National Conference of Employers and Workers that opened in Hargeisa which was organized by the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs and was attended by many companies, large and small, that operate within the country serving the masses.
The VP said that the Government has in recent years strengthened and improved the skills and knowledge of public servants.
“The nation is built when its people are educated and have proficiency. Today, there are countries like ours that have educated their people and send them to the world to work in the labor force and make decisions that benefit their countries.
He also called for working together to protect the rights of workers and teach them their duties.
He called upon both the private and private sectors to employ workers in a fair and professional manner and desist from practicing favoritisms. “I suggest that government agencies and companies adopt a fair and professional approach to the employees working for them”, he said, and emphasized, “The companies should not hire people they know, and the government should not only employ people who are known to the authorities, but they should absorbed into employment justifiably”.
The vice president noted that when education is improved, knowledgeable and skilled workers are acquired.
He decried substandard education or educational institutions that are only out to be merchants instead of churning out capable student graduates who are armed with notable proficiency skills.
Ministers, company executives and eminent labour personalities were amongst speakers at the forum.
