THT- The President of the Republic of Somaliland H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi has called for the expeditious need for holding both the Presidential and political party elections.
He reiterated the facts when he witnessed the swearing-in of the remaining three National Elections Commissioners who took the oath of office at the Presidency on Wednesday. They have just been approved and confirmed by the parliament.
It was administered by the Chief Justice Hon. Adan haji Ali Ahmed, who is the head of the Supreme Court.
The President urged the commissioners to be diligent and steadfast in their tasks, hence reminded them to carry out their national duties responsibly. He noted that the tasks expected of them are monumental since they entail the holding of two elections.
The head of state similarly reminded them of the imperativeness of collective responsibility and the need for adherence to their institutional by-laws.
He pointed out that the political organizations’ election ought to be prioritized and should precede that of the presidential one. He said that the constitution has to be followed as per stipulations.
The political parties’ laws has it that every decade the top three that emerge from a competitive field of several political organizations become the official political parties that vie for the presidency as per the rule of law.
On the same note, the President was convictional that it was not justified to deny registered political organizations their democratic rights when it was due.
He finally pledged his expected support to the NEC as per the incumbency of his office and as the constitution prescribes.
The latest three officials who have just been sworn complete the constituent requirements of the NEC commissioners numbering seven. Their tenure is five years.
